Folks,
The next four years are going to be a dog fight and it’s going to be tough for many of us to keep the energy going, which is why labor reporting is more crucial than ever right now.
Today, a reader has pledged to match all donations up to $1,000. We need to show the stories of how movements are coming together and growing to fight back.
Donate today to help us keep the energy going as we fight back against Trump.
During the first Trump Administration, the Washington Post credited Payday Report as the first publication to systematically track the largest strike wave in a decade.
Unions will play a crucial role in fighting back against Trump. According to a Gallup 2024 opinion survey, unions still enjoy an approval rating of 70%. These types of approval ratings don't disappear overnight.
Now, we hope to inspire people in a similar way by introducing a surge map to show where spikes in organizing are occurring.
Unions can also play a crucial role in defending immigrants, who will desperately need their support to fight off deportations.
Given the need to train activists to defend immigrants against Trump, Payday intends to focus on getting the labor and social justice movements to have serious plans to protect immigrants against deportations.
During the first Trump Administration, Payday was able to have a big impact on helping to protect immigrants.
Our investigation into the spike of deaths of low-wage undocumented construction workers in Nashville led to the city passing comprehensive safety reforms credited with saving lives.
Our work questioning why more unions did not have plans to defend members against deportation forced a debate within the labor movement and opened the eyes of many within and outside of the labor movement.
We have collaborated with outlets ranging from NPR's This American Life to CNN to the leading Brazilian magazine Revista Forum. Esquire has called us “invaluable” and The New York Times once described me as an “abrasive gadfly.”
Now we need your help again. Please, take a minute to fill out our reader feedback survey.
Send any ideas for new projects to Payday and keep supporting us.
Thanks again.
