Today, dozens of campaigns emailed you asking for money. Money that they won’t spend. Instead, it will likely go to highly paid Democratic consultants.

Most media consultants charge 10-15% of each ad buy. In October alone, Democrats spent $1.8 billion on TV ads, according to an analysis by The New York Times.

This means that Democratic media consultants likely received 180 million dollars (a low estimate) - far more than the left invests annually in independent media. (These numbers are just for October - overall, both parties are projected to spend $11 billion)

If labor reporters received just 1% of all the money Democratic donors spent on ad buys in October alone, we would have enough to employ 200 full-time labor reporters at a salary of $70,000 a year with healthcare benefits. (Currently, there are only about 25 full-time labor reporters in the United States).

Instead, we invest billions in ad buys with the very same corporate news and social media companies that ignore workers, setting back the labor movement even more.

Today, instead of giving money to Democrats and their media consultants, give it to a labor reporting outlet like Payday. It will be a far better investment than shoveling money into Democratic media consultants, who will work for major corporations like Google and Facebook as soon as the election is over.

Payday Report may be a small outlet, but we have a huge impact on how stories are covered. Take, for example, our coverage of Lula’s historic comeback in the Brazilian presidential election.

While the rest of the media ignored the Brazilian presidential election and wrote off Lula’s comeback chances, Payday was on the ground and knew early on that a comeback could happen.

Payday covered how the 10-million-member WhatsApp group Lula’s Army was changing the ground game, creating a massive, party-like atmosphere at rallies that gave Lula the momentum to push through shortening the Brazilian workweek from 6 days to 5 days.

Our video on how Lula was staging a comeback in Brasil garnered over 5,000 likes on Instagram as people desperately searched for news about what was happening.

Not only did Correio Braziliense, Brasília's largest newspaper, "the Washington Post of Brasil," cite our exclusive investigation into Trump's role in funding and training a political group backed by the host of Dancing with the Stars Brasil, but back home in Pennsylvania, the largest newspaper in the state, the Philadelphia Inquirer, also cited Payday's coverage, saying we inspired them to cover the Brazilian election.

Payday also snagged an interview with filmmaker and activist Boots Riley, who was in Sâo Paulo during the election, on the lessons that the left could learn from the fight.

Now, we are headed back to the United States, and you know Payday is gonna have a big impact and punch well above our weight.

Since our founding we have published over 1,500 articles, been nominated for an Emmy for our work with CNN, and been credited in a front-page story in The Washington Post for redefining how non-traditional strikes are tracked.

The New York Times described us as a labor publication with “new energy”; Esquire called us "essential," and NPR’s Ira Glass, host of This American Life,  even thanked us on air for our reporting.

So, instead of giving money tonight to Democratic media consultants, who will shovel it right back into corporate news and social media companies, give some to Payday Report.

After Democrats likely take power in Congress, we are gonna need independent labor reporting so pass the hat and donate.

And if you donate tonite, we will give you a free Lula T-Shirt. (Sign up here)
