"Dancing with the Stars" Brasil Hosts Calls Payday "Fake News" to 22 Million Followers

Folks,

When I founded Payday Report 11 years ago, after I was fired during the union drive at POLITICO, I never imagined the host of the Brazilian equivalent of "Dancing with the Stars" would call Payday Report "fake news", but here we are.

Yesterday, Payday Report published an exposé alleging that RenovaBR, a right-wing political group led by Luciano Huck, received funding and support from the Trump Administration to participate in election training in the United States.

Afterward, the head of RenovaBR bragged on LinkedIn that the São Paulo US consulate invited Huck and RenovaBR to collaborate on more projects with the Trump Administration.

Our story was solid and based almost entirely on the bragging the head of RenovaBR did publicly on his LinkedIn Page.

Multiple Brazilian newspapers, including Correio Braziliense (the largest newspaper in Brasilia) picked up Payday Report's story, and it went viral in Brasil, especially on Instagram, where posts about the subject received 15,000 likes.

(To get a sense of the virality of the story, check out the keyword searches for "Luciano Huck, Trump" - it's impressive reach for a small labor publication from Pittsburgh)

Huck was pissed. In the morning, Huck's lawyers sent Payday Report a lawsuit threat. (I promptly replied with Payday Report's Pittsburgh address and told them to forward the lawsuit to my home.)

By early evening, Huck took to Instagram stories to tell his 22 million followers that Payday Report was fake news.

From the phone calls I made today, my understanding is that more journalists are following up on Payday's exposé on Huck's political group, RenovaBR, receiving financial support and training from the Trump Administration. (Check out the expose if you haven't already)

Anyhow, folks, we are making an impact, and let's keep hitting them. Donate to keep up going and get a free Lula shirt. (Be sure to fill out your size and color preference here to receive one)
