GREENSBURG, PA. - Earlier today, former President Bill Clinton spoke at the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg campus on behalf of the Harris-Walz campaign.
While speaking, Clinton was interrupted by a Palestinian solidarity activist demanding to know where he stood on the ongoing genocide in Palestine.
Many of the audience members began to boo the Palestinian solidarity activist and yelled at her to sit down. Clinton, though, was more conciliatory than those in the crowd.
“Don’t be like the Republicans though,” Clinton told the Palestinian solidarity activist. “I’ll let you talk if you let me finish.”
Surprisingly, when he finished his stump speech, Clinton asked the Palestinian solidarity activist to ask her question again. Clinton and the Palestinian activist then engaged in a lengthy back-and-forth about Palestine for 15 minutes.
Clinton gave an extended history of his efforts to broker a two-state solution in the region nearly 25 years ago. He denounced Netanyahu at length in these comments and said that he didn’t see Netanyahu as someone committed to peace in the area.
Clinton denounced the intrusion by Israel into the West Bank at length.
“I think what’s happened in the West Bank is wrong,” said Clinton.
Clinton also said that he hoped Kamala Harris would do more to stop the war.
“If you want peace there and want it to be fair to both sides … you have to pick the person who is most fair-minded and most likely to achieve that,” said Clinton.
