I turned 40 today, and I suffered a midlife crisis beforehand. I had spent most of my life working late and on the road as a labor reporter, trying to make a living as a labor reporter. Now at age 40, I found myself both broke and single.

But unlike many people who go through a midlife crisis, I was proud of what I did during those times. When I looked back on my first 40 years, what I mainly remember are the labor fights inspiring ones in places like Chattanooga, Brasil, my hometown, Pittsburgh, and hundreds of picket lines

In 18 years as a labor reporter, I’ve written 2,000 stories. I just wish I had a dollar in my bank account for each story I wrote. While I’m proud of what I’ve done, I’ve always been ashamed of how little I make and how many hours I’ve had to work. So help us expand and donate today to support labor reporting.

Thank yinz so much for all the years of support.
