We know that immigration reporting educates people about their rights and stops deportation. Right now, immigration reporting is sorely lacking.
While my publication, Payday Report, tracked “Day Without Immigrants” strikes in 120 cities and 40 states in early February, neither The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN, or any of the big three media networks did.
Payday Report is an Emmy-nominated labor and racial justice media outlet that can provide key analysis on major immigration and labor movements in the United States.
The Washington Post credited us in a front-page story as the first publication to systematically track the massive strike wave during the first Trump Administration.
We have collaborated with outlets ranging from NPR’s This American Life to CNN. Esquire even described our strike tracking as “invaluable”.
To expand our capacity to defend immigrants against deportation, the Illumine Service Foundation has pledged to consider any money we raised when giving us an annual grant in late spring.
However, we need you to give first so that they can see that we are a financially sustainable organization. Please, provide as much as possible and help us track these strikes.
Finally, if any groups, need someone to speak about our strike tracking, I would be more than willing. Email me at melk@paydayreport.com with any questions.
In solidarity,
Mike Elk
