Filmmaker and activist Boots Riley, director of the new hit film “I Love Boosters”, which covers international labor solidarity, was in São Paulo during the Brazilian Presidential Election. He sat down to talk with Payday Report about the lessons that the left can learn from what happened in Brasil.
“This was people coming together for a shared goal, a shared struggle, a shared vision of how the world should be, and it was just overwhelming joy”, says Boots.
Boots Riley talks about the party atmosphere in Brasil during the election and how making art together is crucial to succeeding as a movement.
“A lot of it has to do with people with a history of struggle that makes people have a culture that is participatory and does you know where people are not just going and watching art but they're making it together” said Boots.
Boots talked about the importance of class struggle in Brasil and creating movements that can foster the conditions to elect leaders like Lula.
“I could see people being like, "We need a person like Lula”... Well, we need a movement like that, you know, that that that creates these leaders, and and you know, and that has a material base in not just a base in the community where working class folks know it and trust it, but these struggles that are on the job”
Boots Riley talks about the importance of using 10 million WhatsApp Group Lula’s Army to connect people in real life and lessons from the Brazilian election.
