Greetings from the Burgh, where Tim Walz just gave a roaring speech at the Steelers stadium.
Walz Calls Out Men as Harris Surges Among White Women
While speaking to a crowd of union members assembled at the Steelers stadium in Pittsburgh, Tim Walz called out men for not doing enough to back Kamala Harris.
“I'm speaking to the men in the group here for just a moment, because the women seem to be getting this right, and they know the direction we're going. But look, you got women in your lives, your wives, your daughters, your mothers, your friends. Look, their lives are literally at stake in this election,” said Walz.
The comments came as new polling shows that Harris is surging among white female voters. According to CNN, Trump’s lead among white women has shrunk to a mere 1%, far lower than 2020 when he won white women by 7%.
Activists in Pittsburgh say it’s because of the intensive one-on-one outreach that they have been doing to target female voters. (See our story “Overknocking” in Pittsburgh, Activists Pivot to Rural Western PA”)

Kellog’s Union Leader Within Margin of Error in Senate Race
In Nebraska, a union leader at Kellogg’s, Dan Osborn, who is running for Senator as an independent, is now pulling within the margin of error in a variety of polls. The polling website 538.com rates Osborn as down by only 1.5% to his opponent, Republican Deb Fischer.
Even the state’s other Republican Senator, Pete Ricketts, has conceded that Fischer’s race against Osborn is unusually competitive.
“Deb has a tough race,” Ricketts said during a radio appearance on Clay and Buck. “She just has to get out there. We need to get Republicans on board. We need to get Republicans to get back to the Republican Party and remember that Deb is a conservative Republican in this race, not Dan Osborn.”

Union Election Requests Up 27%
Finally, earlier today, the NLRB announced that union election petitions are up by more than 27%.
In 2024, the NLRB received 3,286 petitions for union elections, but in 2023 only received 2,593 petitions. Additionally, the NLRB's unfair labor practice charge filings increased 7% (from 19,869 to 21,292 cases).
“The NLRB’s dedicated employees have worked hard this year to process cases efficiently, but the ongoing surge in case intake continues to increase our backlog,” said Chairman Lauren McFerran. “Additional resources are necessary to enable the Board to expand staffing capacity and ensure that the workers, employers, and unions that rely on our agency benefit from timely resolution of their labor disputes.”
