Folks,
Earlier this month, Payday Report broke a huge story when we published "Platner’s Daniel Moraff Barred from Summer Lee’s Campaign Over Sexual Misconduct Complaints".
Payday's exclusive was based entirely on anonymous sources to protect the voices of those coming forward, leading some to doubt it.
At the time, Semafor quoted an anonymous Democratic Party operative denying the charge. Moraff even took to the pages of the New York Post to blast Payday as being part of the democratic establishment.
Now, the Handbasket has interviewed Congresswoman Summer Lee's former campaign manager, Annie Weinberg, who confirms Payday's investigation into Moraff being barred from the campaign over sexual misconduct allegations.
“These alarming allegations involved six different people who did not want to be named directly, and none of whom were on our staff team, to the best of our knowledge. This community members’ concerns were then backed up by another one,” Weinberg told the Handbasket.
In many instances of misconduct both within the labor movement and the Democratic Party, many have doubted our reporting (even attempted to smear me as someone who's not been afraid to call out misconduct in the labor movement and its enablers on the labor beat).
Among some outlets, it's controversial to rely on anonymous sources, but anyone who knows my reporting knows that I'm an honest man and always get the story right. Once again, our reporting on misconduct in the movement is confirmed, after initial doubts.
We are only able to do this reporting as a result of your readers' support, and we appreciate all yinz do to have our back. Thanks so much for allowing us to do tough reporting even when others, who claim to be on the left, attack us!
