Folks,
Greetings from the Burgh, where many yinzers are stoked that Kamala has decided to make Pittsburgh a "home away from home" as she seeks a place to relax and prepare for the debate.
Kamala Staying at Hotel AFL Was Founded
Earlier this week, Kamala Harris spoke at a Labor Day event here in Pittsburgh and started to tear up when she described how much she loved Pittsburgh.
Many yinzers were touched to see her emotions describing how much she loves Pittsburgh. To see Kamala return and spend a week in Pittsburgh to prepare for the debates has touched yinzers.
Rather than stay in the stressful city of DC, Kamala has decided to camp out in Pittsburgh for the next 5 days as she prepares for the debate. She is staying at the Omni Sheraton Hotel, a historic site for the labor movement.
The site where Kamala is now staying was the site of the American Federation of Labor's founding convention in 1881. For many years, the UE also held its conventions in that same hotel, whose workers are represented by UNITE HERE Local 57.
Unlike past presidents and vice presidents, who prepared for debates and relaxed at rural Camp David, Kamala chose an urban Appalachian city to relax. Kamala has told local labor leaders that she and her husband love to hang out in Pittsburgh and found it a fitting place to relax and prepare for a big fight on Tuesday at the debate.
One local political operative even joked, "Pittsburgh was the new Camp David."
Kamala's stay in Pittsburgh comes a few days after the Biden-Harris Administration announced that they would block the sale of US Steel to a Japanese company, a very politically popular move in Western PA.
Alright, I have to run to cover an event here in town with Congresswoman Summer Lee, AFT President Randi Weingarten, Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, a Pittsburgh native.
The hotel where Kamala is staying is only nine blocks from Payday's headquarters in Pittsburgh, and we will provide many updates throughout the week.
