Folks,
Earlier today, the Trump Administration announced that it was closing the US Embassy in Brasília and its consulates in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, and Recife, citing "security concerns."
They also issued a security alert to all Americans in the country, warning American citizens about violence ahead of the first round of the election this Sunday. The Brazilian federal police, though, said that they did not agree with this increased security alert.
“There is no concrete or actual threat at this time,” said Maj. Raphael Broocke, a police spokesperson, told reporters earlier today in Brasilia.
Many Lula supporters said that the decision by Trump to close the embassy and consulate was an attempt by the Trump Administration to paint Brasil as dangerously unsafe ahead of the election.
"This is yet another attempt by Trump to interfere in our elections," Congresswoman Talíria Petrone told Payday Report earlier today at a 50,000-person rally for Lula.
This is a developing story, but I wanted to let our readers know I am in a safe place and do not feel at risk. In addition, I am paying a local journalist to both work as a journalist and help me navigate dangerous situations in Brasil.
The best thing to do right now is not to worry about me, but to help fundraise so I can keep paying this local journalist and stay safe. He lives a few blocks from me and has been incredible assistance including help me get some medicine for a sinus infection I got.
We filmed a ton of material today at a large rally for Lula and will have more later today or early tomorrow. Brazilians are furious at Trump, and it's helping mobilize support for Lula.
Thanks again for all the support. Please, if you can, pass the hat and donate.
