S&P Downgrades Boeing’s Credit Rating at Strike Enters 4th Week

Yesterday, Boeing halted contract talks and withdrew a pay offer they previously made to the union. The hardball tactics came as S&P downgraded the credit rating of Boeing as the strike drags into the fourth week.

The union predicts that they have a long fight ahead.

"We're in this for the long haul and our members understand that," IAM 571 President Jon Holden told Reuters.

Asheville Nurses Win Historic Union Contract

In late 2020, over 1,600 nurses at HCA-owned Mission Hospital in Asheville voted overwhelmingly to unionize. After a bitter 3 year struggle for a first union contract, nurses finally won their contract just as the community begins to recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene.

“The devastation Hurricane Helene brought to our region underscores how Mission being the best possible version of itself is more important than ever,” said nurse Huns Brown in a statement.

Chippendale Dancers Unionize in Vegas

Finally, in Las Vegas, Chippendale dancers are now unionizing. The show is a massive hit, but workers say they are treated as second class.

“The biggest issue that was surprising to me was health benefits, specifically, and sick leave,” cast member Freddy Godinez told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “There are performers there that have been with the show for seven years, one of them has been there 10 years, and there are no benefits offered for the performers”.
