Folks,
Good news, Payday Report has been consistently hitting our fundraising goals the last few months. This is allowing me to cut down on the annoying fundraising emails. (Trust me, I hate writing them as much as you hate reading them)
More importantly, if we can expand our monthly fundraising slightly by $1,000-a-month, we can bring on a part-time community engagement editor, who help will grow our donor base and make us even more sustainable. We have consistently raised around $5,000 - $6,000-a-month and believe that an additional $1,000-a-month won’t be too big of a lift.
Currently, we have over 700 recurring donors whose support undergirds our organization. Many of these donors are activists, journalists, and union leaders. They have incredible networks that could help our organization grow, but this means reaching people outside of occasional emails and surveys.
Our goal is to organize our relationship with our readers the way that unions organize a workplace. Indeed, we want to turn into a worker-owned cooperative with heavy input from our readers.
To engage our readers more, we propose to host a monthly call with our readers featuring special guests, including movement leaders, journalists, and other interesting people. Part interview, part forum, these discussions will allow us to open a direct dialogue with our readers. We’ll also use parts of this content to grow our online multimedia presence.
In addition, the community engagement editor will help us increase our presence on our various social media platforms. This will help Payday have more multimedia presence and expand our reach.
Currently, we already have a candidate in mind here in Pittsburgh, but we need to make sure that we can pay them at least $1,000-a-month to work part-time, maybe more if we can raise more.
We believe that this investment will pay off over time as we increase our reach and engage our readers’ network, but we need an initial investment from you.
As we fight deportations and cover labor’s fightback against Trump, labor reporting is more vital than ever and we are gonna need your support.
With your support, we can use labor reporting to protect the labor movement.
Love & Solidarity,
Melk
