At the same time, Elon Musk nearly eliminated the ability of publications to raise funds from their readers. This week alone, I lost nearly 1,000 followers on Twitter due to the mass exodus to other platforms.
Payday has slowly built up a following on Bluesky of 300 followers (follow us here), but it will likely take us years to rebuild our viral following.
Now, we need labor reporters more than ever if we are going to fight back against these fascists, and unions have the popular support to do that.
According to Gallup's 2024 opinion survey, unions still enjoy an approval rating of 70%. These types of approval ratings don't disappear overnight.
During the first Trump Administration, the Washington Post credited the Payday Report as the first publication to systematically track the most significant strike wave since the 1940s.
We have new dynamic ideas about fostering communications in different parts of the movement, including surge mapping of upswings in organizing.
Amplifying organizing efforts, including wildcat illegal strikes, will be more crucial than ever. While there is a lot of uncertainty about what the Trump era will look like, one thing is clear: Payday will continue to do what we have always done: amplify organizing and try to encourage people to move forward.
