Folks,
Greetings from the Burgh, where I am working on a major video project about divisions and unity within the movement based off of interviews at this weekend’s “No Kings” protests.
$$$ for Video Editor of Interviews with Activists for Longform Multimedia Project
We are getting ready to put out a series of interviews that we did this weekend with activists at the massive “No Kings” protests.
Since so many photos and videos went viral already from the protests, we thought it would be better to go deeper and longer. I asked activists a lot of deep questions about divisions and unity within the movement. I also interviewed a ton of mascot-dressed activists about why they did it.
Putting together videos is expensive as we pay our video editor $32-an-hour. So please, if you can, donate to help us cover this story and we hope to get something out by Tuesday or Wednesday.
Chicago Mayor Calls for General Strike
On Saturday at Chicago’s No King’s protest, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson called for a general strike
“If my ancestors, as slaves, can lead the greatest general strike in the history of this country, taking it to the ultra-rich and big corporations, we can do it too!” Johnson said in remarks.

UAW Offers Counterproposal in Chattanooga
Last week, Volkswagen offered the UAW its “last, best and final offer” in contract talks in Chattanooga. The UAW says that the current sticking point with their proposal is that it does not offer firm job security provisions.
"The company claims that the language they have proposed gives you job security," UAW Vice President Chuck Browning said in video to UAW members. "It does not."
The UAW has already been collecting strike pledge cards and could take action against the multinational auto giant.

More than 170 US Citizens Detained by ICE
Recently, a Puerto Rican friend of mine, who was born in Pittsburgh, told me that he constantly carries his passport around because he is scared of being deported. A new ProPublica investigation shows that more than 170 US Citizens have been detained by iCE. From ProPublica:
We compiled and reviewed every case we could find of agents holding citizens against their will, whether during immigration raids or protests. While the tally is almost certainly incomplete, we found more than 170 such incidents during the first nine months of President Donald Trump’s second administration.
Among the citizens detained are nearly 20 children, including two with cancer. That includes four who were held for weeks with their undocumented mother and without access to the family’s attorney until a congresswoman intervened.
Immigration agents do have authority to detain Americans in limited circumstances. Agents can hold people whom they reasonably suspect are in the country illegally. We found more than 50 Americans who were held after agents questioned their citizenship. They were almost all Latino.
Immigration agents also can arrest citizens who allegedly interfered with or assaulted officers.
We compiled cases of about 130 Americans, including a dozen elected officials, accused of assaulting or impeding officers.
