PITTSBURGH, PA - Earlier today, the Harris-Walz Campaign announced they had knocked on 805,000 doors in Pennsylvania on Saturday alone. This number does not include doors knocked by unions and other independent groups working to elect the Harris-Walz ticket.
However, Western PA political observers have yet to observe any significant ground game by the Trump team.
Trump has outsourced his ground game entirely to Elon Musk's Super PAC America. Key GOP counties like Westmoreland County, which has a population of 350,000, went for Trump by a margin of 64%-35% in 2020.
However, neither the Trump campaign nor any of its Super PACs have a field office in Westmoreland. By all accounts, Pennsylvania will be decided by whoever can turn out the most votes.
Former State Senator Allen Kukovich represented Westmoreland County for nearly three decades in office and also served in the Pennsylvania Democratic Party for some time. He spoke with Payday about how the ground game, new voter registration, and women's turnout make him feel more optimistic.
"I am cautiously optimistic about this campaign. I think Harris will win by a large amount in the popular vote, and I think she'll win enough for the electoral college vote," said Kukovich.
However, Kukovich added that he was more worried about what might happen after the election.
"I'm more concerned about what's going to happen post-election, and you can tell with some of the things that Trump says don't seem to make sense because he's not trying to get votes or expand his base, but what he's trying to do is lay the groundwork to challenge this the same way he did four years ago," Kukovich told Payday Report. "What concerns me about that is, and I think he would lose all these things in court, but what concerns me is, he's got some people in place throughout the country on boards."
